Now much less popular than they were in the 50's and 60's some older shutters used to have fabric inserts which allowed for the fabric to match the room decor. This were utilised in childrens rooms and places like the breakfast room in old traditional style homes.These days they are not as widely used but many older style homes still use them in some rooms.

Unlike exterior shutters interior shutters have moveable louvers that incorporate a tilt bar. The tilt bar is the rod in the center of the panels which allows the louvers to adjust up and down.This means you can alter the amount of light and level of privacy without having to open the shutters a useful and important feature of interior window shutters.

On the whole interior shutters care broadly two main types these are best described as Colonical style (narrow slats) and Plantation style (wider slats). You'll find interior shutters are made in wood, fake wood (plastic made to look like wood) and plastic also very rarely these days fabric.

Most people have one of two options either interior shutters painted a clean looking white or with woodern shutters they will be either stained or painted to match the interior decor. In truth the color of interior shutters is pretty much down to you depending on your skills and design ideas.
